Long Time….. No Write

September 14, 2012

Its been 6 months almost to the day (today is March 9, 2013: my birthday is in September and I chose to buy myself a tree stand, aka in 2012) that I sat up in my tree stand. [man, I sound like C.S.Lewis-in some of his books he is always making sentences appear so broken by his parentheses.] So today, I decided to climb up there once again. It reminded me of the time I was on a ride coming down the mountain on Capri looking over to Sorrento. Gorgeous…... And, it is gorgeous up in the tree stand.

The first time I climbed up there, about 18 feet or? , I saw a fox following one of my mowed trails through the grasses. Cool. I have spent at most 3 hours or so at one sitting. Did you ever wonder how a hunter can sit up in a tree so very long and not be bored? Well, I have come to find that I am mistaken about that judgement. Of course once in a while I have my coffee, breakfast, water, books, watercolors, bible and of course my camera and lenses! But most of the time not.

Now, how do I get up there with all that stuff? Well, I wear a vest I wore when camping in Africa on safari as well as a backback; and, its lickety-split and I'm up there in no time at all! I love scaring others by sitting there without the safety bar in front of me (us).

Fun presents itself when the wind picks up and the tree sways. The cool part  is that I can sit the length of the seat with my legs extended and rest seated 'longwise,' if that makes sense. Once I actually took a brief nap;  I did put down the bar though.  One of the cats loves to climb the tree and lay in my lap crying until I carry her down. Watching birds is the best and for wildlife. Whether any come by, however, I have now become a full fledged non-hunting sitter in a tree. Would love to put another in the upper woods and then I joke about putting a line between so I could fling back and forth!!

Below are two pictures of my view, however I zoomed in so the height of my position does not show at all. I am really up there and it is fabulous. Picture  on the left is a small portion of the mowed trail; second picture is portion of the yard. Well, spring is right around the corner. Already bulbs are blooming along with the return of spring birds. Don't you love to walk among the trees and listen to the wind and hear the birds?   Yeah, me too.
