Friday, August 31st, A FULL MOON! A BLUE MOON! really? Well, yes and no. Yes the moon will be FULL but Blue? Well, not really!!! A "blue moon" is a term used when two full moons appear in the same month! I never knew that did you guys? So who of you will be looking at this big wonderful ''blue moon?" I will……and hope you will be too. So, sing it….. "Blue, blue..my world is blue…."…..see P.S. below.

This Friday, Aug. 31, might not be all that much fun for you, especially if you’re someone who vows to only do obligatory tasks once in a blue moon. Then again, if you’re a believer that good luck comes your way only once in a blue moon, Friday might be just the day you’ve been waiting for.

The fact is, for the first time since March 2010, we’ll gaze upon a blue moon this Friday, illustrating just how long that fabled stretch of time really is: almost 30 months. After Friday, you’ll have to wait another 36 months — until July 2015 — for the next one. So, it’s time to loosen up Friday and do all those things you say you do “once in a blue moon.”

It’s a rare cosmic rising that will be unveiled, coincidentally, on the same day as astronaut Neil Armstrong’s funeral service. Armstrong, who died last Saturday at the age of 82, brought the fabled moon into mankind’s domain when he became the first man to walk on its surface in 1969.

Despite the colorful turn of phrase, you might be disappointed if you look into the sky. There will be no magical chameleon act performed by the moon on Friday. That’s because the phrase blue moon — dating back centuries with no pinpointed origin — is nothing to do with hue, but instead signifies a full moon happening for a second time in the same month. Full moons occur every 29 days. With a full moon having already appeared this month on Aug. 2, Friday’s full moon will turn blue, well, in name only.

At times moons have actually appeared blue, but that phenomenon has nothing to do with full moons and everything to do with ash particles floating in the atmosphere. Varying volcanic eruptions over the last few centuries have sent up ash clouds. When the ash particles reach a certain width, they can block reds and yellow from getting to our eyes, giving us tints of blue — and sometimes green — moons.

Of course, we can’t rule out a volcano erupting between now and Friday evening, giving us an actual blue moon. But, then again, that only happens once in a blue moon.

And PS: Do you ever use the term, ''once in a blue moon?" I do…oops, is that a good thing or a bad thing? (to be continued, gotta get some shut eye)

You LIVE FOREVER on Certain Websites?

DID YOU KNOW: EVEN AFTER YOU PASS AWAY (not intended to be morbid): Certain sites continue to age you and may even list you as still owning your home.....etc.?? No joke!

HOW DO I KNOW? My little sister, Amy, passed away October 2000 at the age of 41. While searching for friends and family on google.com and bing.com I decided to look up her name ''just out of interest."Why? So much has become way too PUBLIC, (my kids and I were finding many images & info. about us that we did not want out there); would Amy be listed anywhere; would there be Images of her? She never used a computer!!WELL SURPRISE!

ANSWER: yes!  According to one site Amy is now 52! Her husband Bruce who passed away at the age of 55 is 62 now! They still have a home which is valued and the address is provided.CRAZY.
I did not bother to look any farther than the one site. There were no images; however, had I posted any in my blog or elsewhere they most likely would have been visible.

Is it possible to discontinue Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, etc. and be ''invisible''on the net?

So far I can find/locate anyone I have searched for....hmmmmm. Even if we enter ''keep private'' within these sites information still appears on the net!

Anyone know how to become totally invisible from the net? Let me know. That way I can only be found in an orbituary.  I don't believe anyone will bother to look for me there, so yeah.

Should we all go on a quest, turn the tide on all these sites and go for invisibility. What would happen to Google, Facebook, etc.... if we quit the sites even for a day or a week???

ANYWAY, we do eventually depart (not to be morbid); but, will live forever on the net, is my guess.

VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS: THANK YOU

VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS respond rapidly to our neighbors home 2/29/12
NO ONE HOME!

At 9pm I hear local sirens go off followed by 2 or 3 other department dispatches.

For those from other countries; here in eastern USA, I live in the country (not city). There are volunteer fire departments, 2 or more for each township. The local dept. is dispatched. A decision is made if the fire requires additional back-up by local departments


Tonight the fire next door: All firefighters worked fluidly, meticulously gaining control of the fire-
                                                                            within what seemed to be a 3/4 hour period; one and 1/2 hours? The passing of time; how difficult to count time during tragedy.

   Organized. Calmly and expediently everyone appeared to know their task. Without hesitation, men high up on a roof, chainsaw into the attic several places. Not one person is idle; there is no chaos. Fortunately no one was home. We have to wait a day or so to find out what caused the fire. Thankful it was contained and did not catch trees and spread to our home.

I have included photos that captured the reflection off the Firefighter's suits. Look how many there are just outside the home (3 photo from top). Of course these are very large homes, unlike mine (smiles), so had it spread the fire would have been humongous!

There are a dozen or more men inside the house while others break windows for access...what a mess is left!

DID YOU KNOW? = have all your fire alarms connected as ''one'' so that if one goes off ALL GO OFF. 

Possible Fire at our House: We could have perished. Our alarm went off in the basement one night.
I ''happened'' to have gotten up to get something down stairs which I never NEVER do!! I heard a funny noise emanating from the basement; opening the door to the basement I could clearly hear the fire alarm and could smell smoke. Our heater was about to catch on fire! Since that time I have had all our fire alarms connected as one.

Know your house; can you hear from anywhere in your home all alarms, particularly if you are asleep?   ****Have an escape ladder and a plan for each person on ''how to escape." and where you will meet after exiting the house! Be sure everyone agrees to never go back to the house NO MATTER WHAT unless cleared by the fire department. NOTE: if you use batteries check them every 6 months/1 year depending on what you are using.

At 9:03pm on Tuesday, Stations 48, 49, 69, and 47 were dispatched on Pennswood Drive for a House Fire. Chief 48 arrived on location to find heavy fire on the second floor with extension into the 3rd floor. Engine 48-1 arrived just behind the Chief and proceeded to deploy a 1 3/4 line to the second floor to attack the fire. Engine 48-5 arrived next to establish water supply operations. Chief 48 established Pennswood Command with Deputy 48 handling Operations and Asst 49A taking Safety. Engine 49 provided a second line into service and went to the 3rd floor to check for extension and provide additional fire suppression to the 3rd floor. Ladder 69 handled the roof operations and Station 47 handled the RIT team assignment and laddering the to the 2nd floor. A tanker task force was called due to being in a non-hydrant area bringing tankers and equipment from Stations 73, 33, 34, and Air Light 46, in addition to a Medic 93. The fire was brought under control in less than an hour. Crews worked for over 3 hours with the extensive salvage and overhaul operations. Special thanks to Atglen and Sadsburyville Fire Companies for providing stand by coverage.

COLORED PENCILS: PRISMA - A NEW ART FORM

COLORED PENCILS: I was given, as my first project, a small statue of a ceramic clown to paint.
                                                             (I don't like clowns)
My first idea was not to render it as ''ceramic'' and to put into the painting my expression/interpretation of the character.
Of course this photograph does not show the clown as vivid or detailed as I would hope; but then, that
is my old Rebel camera which I do not want to part with at this point.

By the end of the project I came to enjoy this little fellow: I like the expression I put into his face and would like to believe it is a little bit of ''me": whimsy, playful, spontaneous, mischievous and fun. 

I FELL IN LOVE WITH COLORED PENCILS!

The painting at the top of my blog page (***pumpkins and flowers- removed it june 2012 posting at bottom of this page) was my second assignment. I have not signed them yet as I do not feel they are ''complete."  My next post will feature some small tutorials I used to practice colored pencil; books taken from the local library. 

COLORED PENCILS ARE NOT CONSIDERED, YET, A TRUE ART FORM similarly to pastels  which were not established as such until the 1980's! Imagine that! 

To think that Rembrandt et. al. used pastels as an art medium! There was a ''modern pastel renaissance," so to speak, around 1987 and then in 1994 The International Association of Pastel Societies was formed to unite the world in recognizing ''pastels'' as an art form. This was then followed in later years with The Pastel Journal. 

This blog entry however, is about Colored Pencils.  Continuing with the study of colored pencils I am affording myself the opportunity to be introduced to pastels, oils and watercolor pencils. I did dabble in watercolor a few years ago. It is my hope to establish the mediums that will be ''my passion" and study those in detail. 

Any comments, critique's, recommendations for workshops, etc. are encouraged/WELCOMED.

I was not happy with the flower pot she chose and the haphazard arrangement (?) in it but had to go with what was there….would love to have free license to change the contents of the pot. But I was to represent it as is. Showing you some progression of the pencil. Notice the 2nd picture: it is missing something on the left so she did allow me to put in a leaf that I made up from memory...

The pot held a leftover geranium that survived the winter indoors along with nasturtiums.
Photo doesn't show the full colors unfortunately; nor depth really so I guess I need more darks!!!!!

WHAT IS A SECOND?

What is a second, I thought last night

when I couldn't sleep a wink?

     A clap of the hands,

          the blink of an eye,

               or a bird taking flight on wing?

“Can one second” I'm here, the next I be gone

without a clap or a blink?

     “Assuredly” I KNEW

          “in less than a wink,

               with Christ Jesus, I would be home.” 

What made me think, these random thoughts

as I lay on my bed in the dark?

     Last night in the news,

          the death of a man,

               headlining national news.

Whether moments or seconds, I thought last night

when he passed with his final breathe,

     “His spirit took flight,

          his body lay still

               just a man, headlining national news.”

Where has he gone, I thought last night

when I couldn't sleep a wink?

     "Assuredly, I don't know

          in less than this blink,

               with Christ Jesus, is this man home?"

Well, here it is MORNING ALREADY. It seems no sooner I closed my eyes after writing those words
and a new day dawned. Everyone is going about what they do or don't do. This man is no longer here along with billions of others. "They" say, 150,000 babies are born each day (2011).

Many of you have heard of Job in the Bible and/or read about ''vanity of vanities'' from the Ecclesiastical book.  Perhaps you have heard yourself say/think:
                                                               "why bother"
                          "is this worth it?"                                         "what's the use.."
                                                               "I'm bored..."     
          
                              you fill it in  "_______________________________"
                                        



...I  am asking, .WHERE does YOUR spirit go in that second or less at death? 
                 WHAT HAPPENS to the part of you that makes you YOU?

I could never really say before age 30. But now most assuredly I KNOW. 


How do I express that?...........................,,,I know what I know what I know.....

 Assuredly and unashamedly, I say in great joy, that Christ, the Lord will take me home at my final breath! How did I come to know that I know what I know I know?
I sought after God with all my heart, talking to Him whether He really was there or not;  cause I wanted to know, I had to know; I was compelled to know; I was tired of not knowing.......... and HE ANSWERED. It didn't happen all at once....it took TIME,....

So yes, this is written at the death of Steve Jobs obviously, b/c of the date written. But its not about Steve Jobs; 

                                            its about YOU 

----where does your YOU go at the moment of death? Not a popular topic but it will come.  

----what will be your thoughts?   You can say:

                                        'oh I won't care because I'll be gone..."  and then laugh or say,    
  

                      ''this is all there is..." and flatly move on to......whatever is next in your day.

              Steve Jobs knows what is after.....and he can't change his choice on the subject.

APRIL FOOL'S DAY

Definition of FOOL (Webster's): 1 : a person lacking in judgment or prudence
2 a : a retainer formerly kept in great households to provide casual entertainment and commonly dressed in motley with cap, bells, and bauble b : one who is victimized or made to appear foolish : dupe
3 a : a harmlessly deranged person or one lacking in common powers of understanding b : one with a marked propensity or fondness for something
4 : a cold dessert of pureed fruit mixed with whipped cream or custard

These definitions seem to be across the board; very different from one another. Chapters could be written about each point.

I am told I can act foolhardy (synonym: adventurous and or rash). I would like to think that I am very adventuresome and that I add a tad of rashness to that at times, without even giving it a thought! But to be made to feel that you are a foolish person (be duped) or, be victimized, is not fun, is it? Personally? I would not put those two descriptions of ''fool'' in the same sentence. They mean very different things to me: ''made to appear foolish'' versus ''victimized."  (I remember many times hearing, ''what did you do that for?"..and other things...those times are not fun are they? Or to trust yourself over to someone and they appear to be using you temporarily for their own gain or for whatever reason?)

I used to be and would like to be once again, a ''dancing fool''; that is to say, actually dancing often for expression of joy and life and laughter. But where is there to dance anymore but ones own home? I used to dance all the time or just move to music, choreograph my own dances, listen to music, play the flute, put on records (oops that gives away my age; records were 45's; and, I have now found a whole small suitcase besides the medium stack of 45's I knew I had!!!) Got to one day in the summer put those on and my daughter's and I will wear out the deck with foot stomping fun.
My prudent decision to take piano and take it seriously has been extraordinary!

I am not a fool for candy but chocolate, dark chocolate is rather nice! And food? Well, I just am a fool for all kinds of food! 

I am fool for gardening, gardens, nature walks, hot air balloon rides, driving down an unknown road to be surprised by what will be there. So many things outdoors but I won't bore you. A fool for water and ''a cool breeze blowing through my hair like a peppermint patty!!" (remember those commercials?) A fool for watching animals (safari's) and sometimes certain birds. A fool for color and curiosity....and so on and so on......

I do not know what that dessert is that Webster's defines as ''Fool: a cold dessert of pureed fruit mixed with whipped cream or custard," but will check that out later and report back tomorrow, APRIL FOOL'S DAY, if I am able.


Be a fool for someone else and have a lot of fun bringing joy into their life focusing not on yourself but the other person; help them learn to laugh and love and enjoy one day at a time......suzzie

I looked up the dessert ''Fool." This is what I found. Thought it best to just copy and paste the information for those of you who want to know more about this dessert.

"The mind races through the numerous allusions made to fools, from the fool that accompanied King Lear on his howling journey across the moors to the more modern blunderer plaintively asking "What Kind of Fool Am I." But the name of this gossamer dessert comes from the French word foulé meaning pressed or crushed, and refers to the combination of crushed fruits and thick cream. It is a dish that is sublime in its simplicity.
The British countryside is a paradise for berry lovers. It offers gooseberries, red currants, strawberries, raspberries. One can even sing "here we go round the mulberry tree" while plucking the small, blackberry-like fruit. Any of these fruits might have been used to make fools.
This simple dish, so refreshing on a summer's day, might find its modern equivalent in popularity to the omnipresent 'yogurt with fruit on bottom,' though no artificially sweetened yogurt can compare to fresh crushed fruit and cream. The fool is also the beginning of ice cream, a dish that required refrigeration to arrive at the status it holds today as summer's favorite dessert."

So basically Fruit fool is a classic British dessert, dated as early back as the 16th century. It is a mixture of sweetened fruit puree, whipped cream and whipped egg whites. It is usually enjoyed when fresh fruits are in seasons.

Things Are Not Always As They Seem

is the orginal; that is, which is right-side up? Is the scene of sky or water? Manipulate the photo vertical as well. How do you look and observe what is around you?

Are things always as they seem? Sometimes we see clearly and other times but a dim reflection. Sometimes we see as face to face and other times, never at all.                            

In the 90's I had the wonderful opportunity to go on a long African safari in Tanzania, Kenya and Zimbabwe with my mother, two sisters and a neice. I got to the point where I could spot a leopard and cheetah before our private guide; it was wonderful. No longer do I look at the ground when walking. Once in a ''blue moon" I realize I'm looking down at the ground and immediately catch myself; it is too beautiful to miss what is around me no matter the season.Watch other people as you are walking and notice how many people just look at the ground when walking [(smiley face :) ]. We are creatures of habit. Spring is ''springing up'' and that means all kinds of ephemerals will be popping their little heads up from the ground. The birds are already making tons of chatter and the peepers are up for the first time. Here in Glenmoore, ''they say", you know those people who know everything (ha ha ha) ''they say," "that the third time the peepers come up and chatter that spring is finally here." Well, right now the peepers are so loud from the pond you can hear them through the windows!! Just a few more weeks.!!!

So next I will have to publish the song my mother always sang to us in the spring! She was always singing.
